Our Tommy is 80 Year Young, by Mrs Moxham
Date: 17th Oct 2017 @ 1:39am
Please have a look at your invite for dressing up for Tommy's 80th Birthday as we are having a celebration lunch on Monday 6th November.
Dear parents and friends of Bretherton,
On the 5th November, Tommy Wilson, our Chair of Governors, will be 80 years old. Tommy used to attend Bretherton when he was young, lives in the village and has been a huge part of school over his life. We are indebted to him for his time, support and expertise over many years and would love to show him how much we appreciate his commitment to school by holding a special celebration day.
We would like to host a celebration day for our children and Tommy on Monday 6th November, our first day back after the October Half term. As he was born on Bonfire night , his middle name is Guy and here are some other facts about 1937, the year he was born:
- Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs Disney film was released,
- The Hobbit was first published
- Amelia Earhart attempt to become the first woman to fly around the world
- Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth takes place at Westminster Abbey, London.
- The 999 emergency telephone number is introduced
- The first issue of children's comic The Dandy, including the character Desperate Dan, is published.
As you may be aware, Tommy’s passion is also Cricket so we would like to ask that children come in fancy dress in anything related to the year 1937 or cricket and we will have a celebration lunch together. Some examples of dressing up may be kings and queen, come as the police, fire and ambulance for 999, any cartoon characters from The Dandy, any characters of Snow white and seven dwarfs, dressed as a cricketer or even just dressed in multi-coloured clothes to depict sweets ( he used to own a corner shop selling sweets in Bretherton).
We are inviting him for a special lunch in school and an assembly straight after which the children will prepare.
We are confident it will be a very special day for all children, staff and for Tommy and would like to thank you for your help in supporting it. If you have any questions about the day or fancy dress, please do not hesitate to call me or the school office.
Kind regards,
Alison Moxham
