UCLAN forensic science Christmas investigation

This afternoon year 6 took part in UCLAN’s Christmas science investigation. We learned about DNA and Fingerprints, with UV fingerprint powder.  (I’ve added it to my Christmas list!!)

We saw solutions mixed together which then became luminescent in the dark. 

We watched tonic water glow blue under UV light due to the quinine, then added a mento to watch the resulting blue fountain hit the ceiling. 

We watched different metals dissolved in alcohol, burn in all the colours of the rainbow. 

It was loud and mostly dark during the experiments so I apologise for the photos, but we learned lots, solved the Christmas mystery and had a great time.
