Values and Vision

Walking in the footsteps of Jesus with our Christian family, we learn, grow, achieve and flourish together in God’s love.

We have been through a 2 year consultation on our mission statement which concluded in Summer 2020 with the final one above. We are proud of the work and collaboration by all our stakeholders and we feel this encapsulates our vision at Bretherton Endowed. In order to fully support children's understanding of what our mission statement looks like in real life, we have outlined it below.

We have identified some aspects of our mission statement that we will be focusing on in more details as we plan for the future after the difficult 16 months.

to teach children to look through the window of life with awe and wonder to develop a Christian mind, body and spirit.

We would like to say thank you to ‘Handmade by Nicki’ for our wonderful new banner and Mr & Mrs Sykes whose donation to school made it possible. We are delighted to have been a part of your child's spiritual journey.

We had planned a 2 year cycle to immerse the children in the bible linked to our mission statement starting 2020 2021 but Covid, unfortunately has delayed our roll out. This will begin September 2021. The bible links are on the document attached and will support our children's understanding of Christian values in action.

Our Values
At Bretherton Endowed CE Primary School we:

  • Respect other people and God’s world (RESPECT)
  • Never give up, even when things are hard and face our fears (COURAGE)
  • Are proud of who we are and celebrate differences (HUMILITY)
  • Think that telling the truth is the right thing to do (TRUTHFULNESS)
  • Work hard so that we can be the best we can be (HOPE)
  • Are true friends (FRIENDSHIP)
  • Show kindness towards others (COMPASSION)
  • Give thanks for all we receive (THANKFULNESS)

And we further linked scripture to our mission as outlined below:

Our mission statement outline:

During consultation with all stakeholders, we created our updated mission statement from our core Christian values and scripture.

A very special passage is Romans 15:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
This is a worship song that we hold dear and our school is built on hope, joy and peace.

After reviewing each aspect we rooted them in the bible and it helped us outline what it would look like in our school.

Learning : I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8
Psalm 32 is called the psalm of David and is linked to forgiveness, God is watching and guiding our lives. His voice of the Holy Spirit is with us to guide our thoughts.

Growing: And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favour of God was upon him. Luke 2:40
This originates as the child is Jesus, and it reminds us that like us he was on earth and God guided his growth, just as God will guide us with wisdom. Children will be taught that we need to grow in spirituality.

Achieving: Philippians 4:13. 13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

John 15: 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;
It is important that we explain that achieving is not just in education, achieving in faith, achieving our best. Children will leaen that Christ is our source of power/energy

Flourish: ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength [and] You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Mark 12:30-31
And to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19
Children will recognise that the Bible is the rulebook we must follow in life. To really enjoy life the way God intended, it is important to follow His rules. It shows that to love God and Love thy neighbour – Jesus stated that they were the most important and if we followed those commandments , we would have life in all its fullness.

In Ephesians, Paul wants the Ephesians to understand that God's love is ultimately beyond our comprehension. Children to be helped to understand that although difficult to quantify, God’s love for us is greater than we can imagine.

Christian family:
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Children will understand that by declaring Himself to be the Light of the world, Jesus was claiming that He is the exclusive source of spiritual light. That is we follow his teachings, we will never feel in the dark and we will always have hope and a future.
