Diya lamps

Today, we started to learn all about the Hindu/Sikh festival of Diwali which is also known as 'the festival of light'.  We learnt about Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and how people welcome the goddess into their homes to bring good luck and good wealth. They light candles called diyas and light them as part of the celebrations.

We have started to make our own diyas using clay using a variety of techniques like moulding, rolling and squashing. We can't wait to decorate them.
