Diwali celebrations in class one

This week we have thought about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and also about the traditions of the festival. We learnt how Hindu's celebrate by giving gifts, setting off fireworks, making diyas, wearing special clothes, creating mendhi patterns on their body, creating rangoli patterns amongst many other things.

On Tuesday we made diya lamps out of clay manipulation the clay to make the correct shape. On Thursday, we painted them in bright colours. We watched Mrs Clarke use henna to create mendhi patterns and created our own mendhi patterns. We also sequenced the story of Rama and Sita. A busy couple of days learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
