First Aid training class 3

Class 3 were introduced to the role of a paramedic and what first aid is. When in school or home, adults will take the lead but if no one is around, you can take some first steps to help one.

Children to check for hazards before helping someone.

For a burn they learned that they need to run it under the cool water for 20 minutes.

When broken bones, parents can give pain relief and they can keep it still with a splint or a sling. They could see how to apply a sling.

They learned about anaphylaxis and how to assist someone who is having an allergic reaction.  Children were sensible in looking at an epi pen. No needles included in this practise.

On an unresponsive patient- the children learned that you shout the name, look for breathing, if breathing move to the recovery position.

If someone is unresponsive and NOT breathing you may need to do CPR.

You can use Crazy Shark to do high quality chest compressions. They learned how to administer CPR on first aid dummies

Children will come home tonight and share their home address and know how to contact the emergency services on phones.  They need to know house name and street and postcode.
